Equipped with a colloid mill and more than a dozen storage tanks, GLC offers the production capacity for a complete array of products such as cutback, anionic, and cationic emulsions. This line of preservation solutions includes the following products.

Chip Seal

A low-cost alternative to conventional paving

The major causes of road degradation are:

  • Ever-increasing traffic
  • The freeze and thaw cycle
  • Moisture susceptibility
  • Pavement oxidation

The most economical and cost-effective preservation and restoration method available is the chip seal; the application of an asphalt emulsion or asphalt binder on an existing pavement surface followed by an aggregate of uniform size.

The two most common varieties of chip seal are the single chip and double chip. We recommend using our specially blended polymer emulsion if the pavement surface is severely distressed.

Suitability

  • Ideal for roads where the deterioration is greater than a slurry seal application could mend.
  • Great for municipalities, city roads, rural roads, and parking lots.
  • Can be well suited for highways.
  • Great solution for tight budgets.

Process

  • A careful study to evaluate the existing road condition for the right type of application.
  • Lab design to select the right emulsion, aggregate and chip seal system
  • Surface preparation by patching and crack filling.
  • Spreading of asphalt emulsion by a computer-controlled automated spraying machine.
  • Spreading of aggregate chips using a computer-controlled spreader, followed by rolling and sweeping.

Advantages

  • A cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to preserve, protect, and extend the pavement life while providing a new skid resistant wearing surface course.
  • About one fourth of the cost of conventional hot-mix asphalt overlay.
  • Fixes existing cracks and prevents new cracks from forming.
  • Provides a waterproof barrier that prevents water seepage into sub layers.
  • Polymer modified chip seal adds new dimension to surface treatment by providing improved resistance to rutting at high temperatures and improved flexibility at lower temperatures.

Micro Seal

Micro-surfacing is a dense graded slurry mix consisting of fine aggregate, cationic quick set emulsion, cement, water, and a strength imparting robust polymer. It is applied in mats, ranging from 3/8 inch to 1.5-inch thickness, using specialized equipment.

With continued strain in provincial and municipal budgets, departments of transportation are transitioning from repairing roads when needed, to preserving them, using various surface treatments applied on a regular basis to significantly extend the life of our roads.

Suitability

  • Ideal for rut filling, surface sealing, and ride quality improvement.
  • Ideal for restoring proper surface profile and providing skid resistance surfaces.
  • Ideal for restoring high volume roads, highways, city streets, low volume roads, municipal roads, runway surfaces, etc.
  • Ideal for problematic areas where other materials fail to deliver.

Process

  • Vast design and material selection based on existing road conditions.
  • Specialized equipment is used to overlay the surface mat with our expert application group, Road Redi.
  • The rehabilitated road is made traffic worthy within an hour after placement of slurry mat.
